Another great post that combines two areas of great interest to me - poker and the US Civil War.

It also makes an important point about investment market participants - they all trade under uncertain information and they all have to face the fear of loss of capital.  However, one should look to evaluate the other participants to some extent - some are better than others.  Grant found this out when he went up against Lee.  Although Lee felt fear and uncertainty he was a master of controlling it.

James McManus has some further examples of poker and its link to the world of military decision-making in "What Poker Can Teach Us" - http://bit.ly/OzfKG.  In a response to a comment of mine McManus mentioned that "Cowboys Full" also has poker-inflected examples of military history in WWII, the Cold War, and Vietnam.
